I've known people apply for selection only to come away shaking their head saying "I wish I had done more prep first" and so was just wondering at what point do you know it's right for you to make the move. I'm 30 yo ...

First of all, the type of fitness training conducted is vitally important (the word "fitness" being one of the most misused (and abused) words in the English language).

For instance, long distance cycling will get you fit...for long distance cycling. Running will get you fit...for running. The point being that there are activities that are OK for general condidtioning, but it is absolutely vital that you "train for need". In other words, if tabbing ridiculous distances ...

Pre-selection is now done over 7 weeks with a session at your barracks every week.

The PT will involve 7 minute milings over arduous terrain with frequent spells of sprinting and 'beastings' lasting between 50 mins and 90 minutes.

No matter how fit you are you will always feel it- the PT is designed to hurt and test every level of peoples fitness and assess your psychological ability to overcome discomfort.

The majority of people fail pre-Selection because they give up, not because they ...

Hi there to everyone, what can i say this is an invaluable tool for picking up training gems.

First things first, I am an ex reg now in the TA, I'm currently awaiting a posting order to join a Commando trained regiment. After this I want to attempt selection but I'm undecided as to whether to go for SAS(R) or SBS(R).

Is there a difference as far role and training?

Obviously you take the same test week, but after this is there a difference?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

They're great as the plastic they are made from folds really easily, compared to your normal document wallet type. Not only does this make it easier to stow, but they don't crease and wear, and so split and let the water in!

The A3 size is way better than A4, too- don't be tempted to save £2 and get the smaller one. You just end up getting an A3 one ...
